Roger,I know that you had your heart set on a 5297 MM combine..Would a 5555 Oliver work? I know that you have several Oliver combines..

Today I found a decent 5555 Oliver that can be bought for $1750....Its missing the distributor from the engine, maybe an engine shield, and one rear wheel is gone.

The pictures arent great because theres too muck junk around it..

I would love to have the 5555 Oliver. But, as always I am "financially embarrassed". I have a Love affair going on with my house, I have scrimped and saved for years. Just finished the new roof, bathroom is next with a 48 inch by 60 inch shower. Going all out on this.

And some of you may have heard a rumor about me. It's not a rumor, it is true. I recently purchased a 560 IHC on LP Gas with a 4 bottom International Semi Mounted Plow. I know ... hard to believe but true. Don't want to start any "color wars" here but I think 560 IHC & 880 Oliver Checkerboard Grill were the two nicest looking tractors ever built. And this is from an old Moline man.

Time is my biggest problem. I have a lot going on in my life. On Monday I learned that a 16 year old girl I know took her first Chemo treatment for Cancer. I have been working late building a Ceder Chest from trees that were removed from her parents yard several years ago.

I am still working on the 5297. Stubborn ole cuss ain't I.

Well, that's the update from Ks.

I wish that was closer to me. I think the 5555 was one of the best looking oliver combines built, and a rare one at that. I guess ill have to put it on the someday list. I working on getting a 7300 diesel right now.

I have to agree with oliverkid on the 5555 being the best looking combine made. A man 30 miles west of here bought 2 - 715 IHC combines new. He had them pinstriped. Super sharp looking, just wish I had taken a picture of them.

Its an 80 acre junk yard thats filled to capacity...Thats another reel sitting up there..I think the 5555 has around a 18 ft header on it? The header would have to be pulled off to get it out of there.

I'm guessing that the 5555 Oliver will be there for awhile..Theres nothing wrong with a 560 LP..I have a 460 gas and a couple of 4 bottom FH plows....Theres lots of 560 LP's in that junk yard with the 5555..Sorry to hear about that 16 year old girl..Thats way too young..

(quoted from post at 17:26:20 12/13/12) One question, what is goin on with the twin Reels, or is one just setting on the head??

It's a super secret test machine. I bet there is an X in the serial number!
My Uncle had a 5555 Oliver combine when I was a kid. I too thought it was a cool looking combine as a kid.

(quoted from post at 19:56:35 02/16/13) Did Oliver Ever build a 5555 or a 7800 with a diesel engine in it?

No, only gas V8's - the 5555 had a Chrysler 318 while the 7800 started out with a 383 Chrysler, later the 400 Chrysler. Basically the same motor with a bit larger bore.

The 1974 White full-line catalog mentions the 354 Perkins diesel as being an option on the 7800. I inquired once about this to White, they confirmed the diesel wasn't available until the 8800 came out in 1975.
