6600 JD Unloading auger

I bought a 6600 used about 6 years ago. It has worked well for me but the previous owner had a rope tied on the unloading auger, and you need to pull on the rope to help the auger through the final part of it's swing when it is moving toward the unload position before you can use the beartrap to lock it there.

Is this a common problem on these machines? The auger has had some work done on it and I also wonder if the crank arm that the hydraulic cylinder attaches to was put on the wrong spline so it doesn't have enough leverage when the auger is extended.

It is not uncommon to have to help them the last little bit to get the latch to reach. I usually would just pull on the slide pipe to get them to latch the last few inches. The whole setup was not the best when new. So you take a few hits and bangs an they don't close correctly. Unless it is a real big issue I would not worry too much about it. If you are going to replace the outer tube then maybe work on the alignments then but other than that there is not much to do to them. They where kind of weak when new.

Spray up the slide pipe with wd 40, park nose of combine down hill a bit, and have motor revved up when swinging will help, but all this and you may still have to help it a bit. Both of our long auger 6600 neeed a little pull but the short auger one always closes by itself.
