have trouble with morning glories wrapping on header auger there was a company that made guides that let the fingers retract inside years ago does anybody know if they still exist and where can you get them

Check your op manual....pretty sure on a Gleaner that retraction is adjustable. Would expect the same on JD. Pretty much a generic adjustment among brands.

What header are you using??? If it is the old style quick-tach one then they did not retract far enough and there is no adjustment on them for it. Plus the small auger made them wrap easier.

If you have a newer 200 series then just take your grinder and grind the leading edge off the steel fingers at a 45 degree angle. Grind them about a 1/2 an inch back. To check if you have ground it enough, roll it to the rear and see if the angle is below the guide. When you get them ground to where the leading edge is below the guide they will not wrap the vines as easy. Almost never.

Also a trick to use if you just have a small spot with the vines in it. Cut along the spot with less than half the head. The vines that usually start the wrapping are the ones that are straight out in front of the fingers. The ones drawn in from the sides are usually behind the auger by the time they get to the middle and do not wrap.

Also the plastic guides that stuck out so the fingers would retracted back through them did not stop the wrapping the guides them selves would cause it then.

Also check and make sure the tin guide holder is tight against the auger on the front side. I usually take and bend them so the leading edge is real tight against the auger as I tighten the retaining bolts.
