O/T 800 Versatile

I could hear the pride in his voice when he said – I bought it new in 1974. The old Versatile showed it too, it is in very good condition, everything works and the cab is clean. I looked around the farm and could see that it had been passed over for trade in several times; but now the time had come for it to be replaced. When I hit the starter it came to life and idled like the day it was new. He told me to be careful with it, the brakes had gone out two days ago and he didn’t want me to damage my trailer. I knew it wasn’t about the trailer. It loaded without any problems. After I boomed it down we talked a few minutes about this and that. I told him I needed to recheck my boomers and get on the road. He told me – oh don’t worry if it falls off, I don’t suppose anyone cares about an old tractor like that anyway. I told him, maybe not; but you do, and as long as it’s with me I am going to take care of it the same way you did.

Hauled with pride. 11-28-12.

First in a long line of Versatiles with the 855 Cummins.

A lot of bang for the buck. It looks like a nice one too.

Great to hear from you again Roger, always enjoy what you share with us. I have my first bull locked in catch pen out below the barn to take to the sale this next week. It's with mixed emotion that he goes, I know how the man feels, this old boy built my foundation.

So Roger was it traded in or did you buy it. Where was it traded in if you don,t mind. Would be interested in trying to buy it if they are a dealer.

Wish I had the money to buy it and a shed to put it in. When I pushed the throttle open this baby HOWLED.

It was traded in to the Agco dealer here in Winfield. Needs brakes fixed and one rear axle seal has a minor leak, common on a Versatile. Tires are very good.

This is a sweetheart of a tractor.

My brother had one of those. That turbo Cummins is a good engine. He would use the Versatile instead of his 2490 Case because it used less fuel per acre than the Case.

After he retired, he sold the 800 to our nephew to replace his JD 4WD that blew a clutch and would cost more to repair than the tractor was worth. Nephew really likes the 800.

Thank you again for a nice picture and your coment about the 800. Knowing you , you would take good care hauling it and that would make the old owner feel good that it was in good hands. We really enjoy your comments and photos. clint
