haley 11-24-2012 15:29:13 69.160.178.248 Report to Moderator	Deltared is right,you need to get the drum to at least move away from the key just a little and it will make your life easier.I have never actually removed the brake drum on one but what I do on the other keys is start the wedge tool between the key and the pulley,Then strike the pulley with a sledge and a solid piece of shaft real close to the key.Lots of penetrating oil will help and DONT try to pull the pulley off with the key still in or you will regret it.Why do you need to take the drums off? You might want to make sure the parts yard sends the axle brackets with the trans because the bolt pattern on the trans got bigger on the newer 642's.The brake backing plate bolt pattern also is different on the newer ones. haley 11-24-2012 16:30:55 69.160.178.206 Report to Moderator	Re: Hey Haley in reply to Alliscman, 11-24-2012 15:40:25   What I would do is remove both final drives,slide each shaft out as far as it will go,and then unbolt the brackets from the axlehousing that holds the trans in place.The brakes will come out with the trans.Dont forget that there is a spotweld on each trans bracket where it bolts to the axlehousing.The trans can be removed by just taking one final and axleshaft off but in the long run it is easier to take them both off so that you arent fighting with one axle trying to line up the trans on the way back in.
