how much are elevators docking for moisture in soybeans in other areas,around here in eastern n.c. there hitting us for 30 cents a point

It usually varies by elevator. Typically the smaller mom and pop elevators are the worst for shrinking the grain and then charging a drying fee on top of it. USDA uses a straight .12 factor but elevators do not have to follow the usda standard.

Most places around here is 1% of the purchase price for every half point. Which would be about 28 cents per point now. When beans were $15 it would be 30 cents per point.

You get back about half of that 30 cents with the weight of the moisture you sold.

I would rather be a point wet and get docked 30 cents then be 3 points to dry and miss out on the lost moisture weight.

wet soybeans are a bargin to sell compared to dry ones. dry ones below 10% moisture cost a ton to sell. it just doesn't show on the ticket.
you can always ask your seed dealer for the formula.....every test plot has the yield moved up to 13% moisture. if the difference was small, you'd never hear about it!

$.05 per point per bushel on drying and usually 2% + shrink. I usually figered at 17% moisture corn I was loosing 20 bushels @ market price, lets say $7.00 = $140 + $50 for drying so I'd loose $190 per load. That adds up fast on 1000 bushels a truck!
