How long has your dad ran a combine? Sounds like not too long. As soon as the grate comes out then the concave is not far behind. Then that takes out at least 2 straw walkers along with a rasp bar or two. The best thing he can do is stop immediately and put in a new one. What about the upper and lower hispeed unit on the right side? Better check it too. They are not cheap. The tell tell sign is the feeder house chain jumping a cog in the middle of the top shaft. That is when you know you have trouble.
