cleaning out older IH rotaries

I"ve only run conventionals, my last being a 915. I grow small acreages of specialty grains and need to get the machine good and clean without spending half a day doing it. The 915 was a pain and I never could get it very clean. I"m looking at early model 1480"s since not much else is left in our area. How are they to clean out?

Alot depends on the crop being cleaned. Crop debris that has low moisture is naturally much easier. Debris that can heat and cake, not as much "fun".

There is pretty good access to the rotor area and auger bed. A leaf blower works well if material is dry.

The tuff spot in the hopper is where the rear cross auger feeds the vertical unload auger. Not much room there for anything but compressed air.

Same as the 915 if you clean the return and clean grain augers. Probably need to slip the chaffer and sieve out for that.

I'd guess you are looking at 3-4 hours, that does not include removing the chaffer and sieve.

Thanks for the info. Guess there's no easy way on any machine, other than plot combines, to them very clean without a lot of elbow grease, compressor, and vacuum.

There is a narrow strip you can remove below transition cone and above wood blocks that let you rinse out belly auger pan. Then park it on a slope with clean grain elevator on the downside and rinse out rest of the inside and let water flow out bottom of elevator. Take me 2 days to clean mine up way I like it

I have 1660 with the cummins motor but I use a jack hammer compresor works just the best I take off every door there is let it run while blasting it at the end will do a great job then put it all back together a power wash it grease it let it run for about 20 min and good to go.
