what if i went to 28 rows ?

If you are motivated enough I don't see why you couldn't go all the way down to 20" or a bit less. Massey built 62s which were just a 63 cobbled together at 20".

The question is why?

my 400 cyclo planter can nandle 6 rows ,and it goes down the road safely in id=== iot traffic , i dont want a wideaz 6 row planter .. i have the units to install ,, but only if i narrow all the rows a few inches ,,the cyclo planter doesa a much better job in any condition plantin beans than the hay buxter drill ..if i double back with 4 rows and split the middles to make 15 inch rows , i am forever and a day planting ,, but i get a much better stand when the weather goes nutty

If the 63 head could be moved into 20" rows I would do it. This year I changed over to 20" rows in beans and corn and will never go back to anything else. We here in SW Ohio had the same hot and dry weather you did and had beans that made 47bpa and corn that made 130bpa adveraged for a dry year wich aint bad. My 8x20 planter is 10" narrower than a 6x30". One piece of advice I can give you is match the corn head and planter togeather, I makes harvesting alot easer. Bandit

Ive been thinking of doing the same splitting rows like that. Can you tell me what tooth sprockets you use on the front and back? Thanks

only if i look at the chart that you shoulod have under the cover of your cyclo planter //i have a 144,36 and 24 hole seed drum s, ,, i shoot fora live pop of 155k , and i usually seed at a rate of 170k +..i usually seed with a 17 tooth onfront and a 8 or 10 tooth on back..

I ran a MF 43 head on 28" rows for a year or two back in the late 90's. Dad retired and I took the old 8 row wide planter to 10 row 28" since we had a couple extra splitter units.
We were able to narrow the 643 to 28" but the 43 wouldn't so we just ran it on 30". It was worse on my NH head when I got my TR 85. 4 rows aren't a big deal, 6 rows are too much.
