Would I be happy?

As you may remember I am looking to replace my 750
Massey. I have located a 1986 Case 1620. IH 358
engine 3600 hrs. $16,900. 4-row 30" corn head
included. One owner machine. Anyone know capacity
wise how that would compare to my 750?

750 massey is bigger(more capacity) than an IH 20 series. The 20 series was IH's smallest model. Look for a 60 series ie 1460-1660. I have a 1460 with a 1063 corn head and can run 4.5-5 mph in 180bpa corn.

Have you looked at any Gleaner rotary models? You have some good dealer choices in SoMN. Any Gleaner is easier to work on than the Massey 750!

If you don't have a lot of acres to run across and aren't in a hurry it would work ok. The problem with the 1420 and 1620 is being smaller and lower production numbers there are some parts that don't interchange with the larger models and can be spendy and hard to find in some cases, whereas the 40's and 60's are identical for the most part and most of the wear items and even some specialty parts are available aftermarket and less spendy than case.

I would find a 1660, lots more of them, more parts. It will handle a 6 row and a 20ft. Has more capacity than my 550 and 540 combined. I don't have much more in mine with the flex heart an what you are talking about, nearly the same hours but I have the 466 in mine.

I'd at least go with a 1640 or 1660 if I went with a Case. We ran a 1640 the past 5 years and stepped up to a Gleaner R62. Talk about a huge difference. We don't have a Gleaner dealer within 90 miles but we made the swap anyway. Couldn't be happier.
