Went to put the f'plates in the 95.They won't fit!!Came out of a 95 hi/lo,I have a 95 squareback.Should fit,right?My question is,how will it work without the plates?I'm going to try it,just want some 'feedback'.Thanhs,Steve

I don't use filler plates unless the moisture is 25-30% for guys putting it in a silo. Cylinder use to get dust in it and get out of balance when you stopped the machine to unload.

You'll probably overload the walkers with shelled corn and you'll be feeding the pheasants.

Just for kicks, I got out the old 105 owners manual to see what they recommended pertaining to filler plates. The only mention of filler plates in the whole book was a warning not to use filler plates at cylinder speeds over 600 RPM's. There was nothing that I could find telling us anything about installation or when to use them. Fillers aren't even mentioned as an accesory. I do remember an owner's manual Mentioning something about filler plates and corn. I'll bet it was in the cornhead book and that's out in the shop.Jim

My corn is 15% and lower. When I was a "beginning farmer",an older nieghbor had an older 95 roundback. He didn't use 'plates. He said that they were not nessary, that cobs didnt have a problem with getting into the cylinder.I guess I will find out....

Steve, I don't use filler plates on my 4420 and seems to work fine. If your used to having filler plates, the settings might be slightly different, maybe.

This 95 is new to me.My 45squareback and the old 55 roundback before that each had filler plates.

It all depends on how hard the corn shells off the cob. In hard shelling corn you will get cobs with a lot of corn still attached up on the straw walkers. Some cobs will pass through the center of the cylinder and not be completely shelled.

Had guys try it around here in the past. Unless the corn was real dry and shelled easy they had high losses out the back.

Steve I am in the same boat as you. I have a set of filler plates for my 95 corn special and dont want to use them. I have been going back and forth about it while changing mine over for corn. I think I'll try it and go from there and see what happens, I can allways stop and put them in if I have to. All we can do is try it and hope it works right. Bandit

I use filler plates with my 95. I get about as clean a sample as you can ask for from a combine. Also, I have never taken the filler plates out of any John Deere cylinder/walker combine I've ever used. From the 95 thru to a 9550 Sidehill, hitting every series in between. We put a couple of golf balls in the cylinder to help knock the dust out. We believe the filler plates help the cylinder with the flywheel effect in soybeans, but can't prove that I guess. Just what we do...

The reason the combine operator's manual doesn't say much about filler plates or does not list them as an accessory is because the filler plates came with the corn attachment (read: corn head). Look in the manuals for the 235, 335, 435 & 635 Corn Attachments - that's where you will see the info about the filler plates.
