One of those days

Have you ever had one of those days that it didnt pay to get out of bed, Well today was. I walked out of the house this morning to find a flat on the front of my 1 ton, Changed the tire to the spare. Drove to town(12 miles) to get fuel for the combine and truck and had to drive back home because I forgot the check book. Back to town fueled the truck(diesel)up started filling gas cans(4 gallon) and they ran out of gas because they droped the price to $3.18 this morning. Drive to the other side of town to get gas at another station at a higher price $3.24. Got the gas back to the farm but 30 gallon in the combine fired it up and headed to the field to start cutting beans. The first round I found out that the morning glorys were worse than I thought. Stoped a 10 times to clean the auger off. Stoped and duck taped all the bolt heads on the finger guides, Problem solved! Back to cutting, All went good till I went to unload the first bin load and while pulling the auger out the combine died! 4 hours later with a new set of points and condencer, New fuel filter and coil and draining 1/2 gallon of water out of the fuel system she fired up! And now its 5pm woo-ho maybe I can still cut somemore! Well I got another 2 1/2 acres cut before the due set in and stopped me. But the best part of the day was the beans I was cutting (4acres) made 70 bu an acre or better by the way it filled the wagon (hold 320 bu)and its full and heavy! With everything that went wrong today, My old 95 got a good work out cutting those beans and did a real good job doing it even if I had to run slower than normal. Well the sun was out and the air was good and warm and it wasent muddy, A good day. Bandit

Oh yeah I"ve had days like that.

Sounds like when you drained the station of it"s last gas you also got the water at the bottom of the tank.

No dought. Today aint starting out any better, I cant even belive it rained sometime in the night. If I am lucky it didnt rain at the farm and I can cut today with an 80 degree record high tempeture. Aint farming fun! Bandit

Had one of those a week ago saturday, a few days earlier cut some beans loading a trailer load it got dark and I thought I just need a few more to finish my load. Well haha I found a patch of foxtail and got a snoot full and it almost got through before it killed it. so instead of coming back the next morning, I put on a smoke show trying to get it out and torched the rotor belt. The rotor speed adjuster had been acting up so I found bad wires about a foot long between the connector and the limit switches. Then broke the connector body taking it apart, dealer in town didn't have one but their main store about 1 1/2 hrs. away did and was open til 11pm. So went after the $4 piece it took $20 worth of gas to go get. Didn't get the wires back in the right order and it still doesn't work. Sent the load of beans and the trucker called they rejected them for 20% moisture ( varieties without testing) so he brought them back. Patched a hole in the bin floor, put the bar in the door and turned around and fell over the prop rod on the bin door and landed on my chest. Went to the er where the wife works to get checked out, after waiting with the "frequent fliers" they took me back poked me a couple times said well you probably just bruised those ribs here's a script for some pain pills take it easy. I thought to myself I just paid a $100 for THAT! So I have pretty much been laid up since. Worked a couple days but didn't feel good afterwards. Going to try it again today and see what happens.

Well it had rained at the farm just enough to make them tuff, But by noon they would haul out easey. Started cutting the last 23 acres(in 3 fields) of beans just after noon. Dad hauled 3 loads to the mill and after the 3rd one he said the mill was full till sometime tomorrow. I got done with the lights on and boy it felt good to unload the last bin load. Now I had to back 5 wagons in the barn in the dark (thank god for bobcats). My old 95 did a real good job and it was the first time to cut 70 bu beans and it did make her moan alittle. Now that the beans are done its time to get the 95 ready to shell corn. I think I am going to take it easy tomorrow and just haul beans. Bandit

Congrats on the crop, nothing more enjoyable than combining a good crop. Be sure and get some pics of that new setup in action shelling corn.

Wow!!! $3.18 for a gallon of water. That is cheap. I think bottled water is going for about $10 per gallon here. LMAO

I always hated to suck the tank dry when I was running gas machines.
