Picking with an IH 234 on a 706

Here are some photos of my "new to me" IH 234 mounted picker picking some corn this fall. I had the opportunity to use both the husking bed and sheller and both units ran well. This picker had been sitting in a shed since 1976. After some TLC my dad and I got this picker running, nothing major just lots of lubrication and adjustments.

That old barge type wagon sure brings back memories. My brother and I came home from school to find three barge boxes full of corn to be shovelled into a crib and 2,000 chickens to be fed every evening in the fall. I think my hands are what they are today(large, hard, thick fingers) from being wrapped around a #14 grain scoop. Great pics.

I had to shovel the corn out of those flat bottom wagons. I always pivoted on my left leg and pitched to the left. My hip would get so sore that I could hardly walk by the time the corn was in the bin. And I still have trouble with my hip to this day!

Sure was glad when we put hoists on the wagons.

great pictures ! those ears sure look good in that elevator. always wanted to run one of those. just something about ear corn dont you think?

Sure love seeing corn pickers in action! A guy near my dad's place still picks 20-40 acres of corn for his cattle, uses a Farmall 560 and 234 picker like yours. Thanks for posting the pictures.

How dry was your corn? don't see much shelled corn and the cobs look like they had very little shelling. I picked a load yesterday with a NI324 and the shelling was terrible. This was about 13%. Most was in the wagon but still not as nice looking as yours.

We still had a few barge wagons we fed from but my elders thought those three galvenized little giant gravity wagons were the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Nice pics. Glad it worked good for you. Hope to have better luck next year with my case 426.

Nice pics. I really like to see corn pickers at work, we have a Deere237 mounted, but it shells to much corn on the ground.I have considered putting a 234 IH on a 3020 Deere tractor but the correct brackets probaly can't be found anymore.
