JD 45 debris in tailings elevater

Im new to combining and i ran my old 45 for the first time and she did better then i could ever wish for just a couple minor things. So as far as the corn in my bin it was really clean and also no cracked kernals the only problem is my tailing conveyor had alot of cobbs in it and i notice alot of the cob were broke or cracked in half that were coming out of the back of the machine what adjustment should be made or is this how it is suppose to be?

Open the concave up until you aren't breaking the cobs, but still don't have any kernals on the cob.
You may want to close the sieve some and turn up the air a little more. That should keep the broken cobs out of the tailings for the most part.

Your cylinder speed is too fast,or the cylinder to concave os too close.For corn,the gap should be approx 5/8 at rear,wide open at front(approx 1 1/4").Cylinder speed should approx. 450rpm.For your combine,swap grain sprockets to give 437 rpm.That is the large 42 tooth on cylinder,27 tooth on the beater shaft.You reall should order a book!!There too many things to 'wing it'.ecpeacially for a 'newby'(no offence intended)Your JD dealer can get you one.

As a rule when cobs split lengthwise concave too tight. Cobs split crosswise.. cylinder speed too high.
