105 chaffer

So, there's been lots of talk on here lately abot the "05" series...

And we have a 105 diesel corn special. She's kind of a pet, but does about 200 acres of corn per year.

Anyway, does anybody make NEW chaffers/sieves for these old girls? Mine is tired, and I bought a spare from Worthington, but it isn't much better.

Any ideas?????

Change you rubber bushings in the holders for the shoe. These get old and hard and start to hammer the shoe and thats what causes it to break. If your sieve is still usable and you change those bushing it will probly be ok. They are still available from jd. They have a steel bushing with a rubber coating on the jd's I think.

We try to do that every couple years, and it does seem to help. I'm mostly curious if there is someone out there building sieves and chaffers.

I have a complete top screen assembly (chaffer?) with side hill kit in good condition for a 105. It is not the long finger corn special screen, But i used it in corn and had no problems running corn out the back while pushing a 643 corn head. I will take $250 plus shipping for it. Also the front section of the top screen is the same deminsions as the bottom screen. It is possible to use what I have as the bottom screen by taking top screen mounting hardware off and attaching your bottom screen mounting hardware to the top screen front section.

To add to jon f's post, the front pivot rocker arm (the one the pitman hooks to when it comes back from the crankshaft) where it pivots and bolts to the frame, can be slid front or back just a bit to adjust the start and stopping point of the chaffer. It doesn't take much, just a fraction of an inch. Look on the frame where the top of the pivot arm comes forward and see if the frame has been touched. If it has, you are knocking out the chaffer real quick. BTDT and paid the price, that was when Deere still carried new chaffers for the 105. I don't know how to describe this any better but just take a close look at the rocker arm the pitman hooks to and see if it's been hitting the frame on the end of the forward stroke. Jim

I will add that in high yeilding we would remove the bottom screen and run without it for gain in capacity.
