fertilizer question

talk to fert dealer or county agent. soil tests are the best way to tell. around here they did away with 18-46 and went to 11-52. In NE we usually put 100lbs down which in your case would be 46lbs of actual phosphate. You cannot put phosphate down at the same time as lime.

Not a dumb question, just lots of unknowns....

What does your soil have to start with, is it rich or poor, do you need to just eep up or be building the soil?

What kind of yields can you hope for, is it winter or spring wheat, etc.

Wheat uses 1.2 lbs of N per bu

.52 lbs of P

.26 of K

So if you harvest 30 bu wheat, you'll want to add 15 lbs of P and 7-8 lbs of K just to keep your soil up. Now if you hope to yield more, or your soil is poor in these, them you'll want more....

So, if you spread 100# of Dap, you'll be adding 18 lbs of N

46# of P

0# of K

That would be a good amount of P - probably too much if you do so every year, but not enough N or K.

You'd need a soil test to do this really good, and a good guess of what type of yield you can hope for, and them buy a blended fertilizer that matches the N, P, & K to what your soil needs.
