Any 7700-7720 Deere experts on here?I need some info on the straw choppers that came on these models.Everyone around here is moving to no till planting and several of my customers have had problems planting through the thick straw that the old Fords leave with just the slingers on the rear.I have been looking at the Deere choppers for the 7700-20 series and they are exactly the same width as the Ford and drive off of the same side as the Ford.Since the Ford choppre are rarer than hens teeth I am going to put the Deere chopper on my Fords. The deere choppers and replacement parts are redily avalible new or used and seem to almost fit without much mods.I have located a chopper close by and cheap off of a 7700 but I have two questions.#1-It seems there are two styles of rotors that were made, one with bolt on knives and one with rods that hold the knives on which is the newer style?#2 can anyone tell me what rpm the choppers run at on the Deere combines?I have several chopper drive assemblies for the Fords that are almost identical to the Deere drives but have yet to find the chopper assemblies for the Ford so this is about my only option.I have been told that to run corn you just pull out the stationary knives but do you slow the chopper down on the Deere combines or does it run at the same speed as grain?Choppers are something new to me and any advice will be greatly appreciated.
