Pesky Green Stem Syndrome Soybeans

Anyone else aggravated with them?

Seems like I have been dealing with them in varying degrees for 12 or so years.

No known cause, they tell us.

Or, do they really know the cause and WON'T tell us?

One thing I know for sure, we didn't have them when I was a kid. Dads old model 60 A-C combine could not have handled the horsepower robbing bastages ! Heck, a single jimsonweed would make her shake-rattle and roll.

I can't help but wonder if Green Stem Disorder is tied to the Roundup Ready gene.
 
Also, did your dad ever try to cut soybeans with that ole AC in September?? I doubt he ever tried until after a frost. At least that's the way grandpa tells it... Seems like we're all pushing things a little earlier every year. I'm just as guilty of it as anyone.
 
When we used Headline fungicide on our beans a couple of years ago the pod were dry but the stems were green and the would not drop their leaves stayed green too I ask another chemical dealer he said that the headline caused it. We got the neighbors son to do them with an old spike tooth combine they had.
 
It's still early in the season. A good freeze with a four day waiting period afterwards will make them go through like a breeze. Had some Peterson beans back in the 70's that stayed green and stemmy forever. Couldn't hardly go slow enough with the Massey 82 combine taking four rows. A week ago we ran through some conventional non-GMO beans that were tough and green but the pods were tinder dry. Jim
 
I ran into an issue this year that was called green plant mutation, the pods dried complete and the entire plant with leaves stayed green. I am with you what is up with this.
