This part of the coastline is one of the most treacherous in the World with rocky coastline, tiny islands & dangerous tides. Countless 100's of ships have run aground over the centuries, so there are 8 lighthouses on the Pembrokeshire coastline, built in the 1800's. They were manned until the 1990's now automated.

This one is at Strumble Head.

(quoted from post at 12:28:42 06/18/12) There isn't a resident lighthouse keeper anymore?

Traditionall there were always 3 keepers on duty in each lighthouse - now all light houses are un-manned and automatically operated.

Pretty pics. Is that by a village of Tresinwen? Got to searching around with Google maps, think I might see the overhead?

Thats the place Paul.

You can see the lighthouse clearly on the tiny island {100 feet off the mainland} by looking at Satelite view.

If you enter in search box DINAS CROSS you will see exactly where I live. 1/4 mile inland from the coast at Bryn Henllan.

The large farm jutting out into the sea is ISLAND FARM, 300 acres of cultivatable land - all down to grass with 1200 Llyn breeding ewes

Notice this whole area on the mainland is all small grass fields

Well then, if you type in Klossner MN you will see my place, I am just a bit east of the town. Was named after a distant relative of mine.

Your area is so pretty, the patchwork fields.

Whats the huge wooded area? Is it a valley or a hill? Is the area flat or sloping land?

Seems strange [to me] to see every field has straight edges - easy to sow crops in straight lines LoL

We had glaciers (icebergs) melt off from here 10,000 years ago. They shoved the topsoil of Canada off and left it here. As the glaciers melted, it cut hue channels of mega big rivers through the area.

The wooded areas are the valleys and creek bottoms that were formed by all that water running off. Deep vlleys.

My farm is still hilly, as I am close to the Minnesota River Valley. The river meanders through it, but it is a deep wide trench that was washed out. A mini Grand Canyon....

The land near the river vally is typically hilly, the washed eddies of the old lake bottom. About 1/4 of my state was a huge lake - the melted glaciers.

I find your pachwork, un-square fields equally interesting. As this country was measured and surveyed, they set it out in nice squares.
