F2 lost power and quit

cut 200 bushels of wheat before it rained. ran like a top. then started it wednesday, ran a couple of minutes, then lost power, blew grey smoke and quit. had old fuel in it (3 yrs old). i put fuel additive in before starting. after it quit, i changed the fuel filter, pumped the system up, got fuel to the injectors, but still not running. any experiences similar or speculation what my problem is?

Check out the return line and the checkball for the return on top of your pump. had the same problem last fall. check ball was plugged

Yes, the check valve was full of stuff. Mechanic said it was from parts in the injector pump (plastic ring gear maybe). Got the pump redone at Mountain View (had it to them by 8 am and they called at 1:30 to say it was done).

Got it back on, ran like a top again for hour and just quit. Solenoid in the pump tested fine in the shop, but was not any good. Mechanic had one in the shop, put it in, and it runs good. Have a little fuel restriction, could be some of that stuff from the pump in the tank plugging the hole (or something else in there doing it).

Now, just have to do something with the stiff throttle cable. Priced a new one and it was $154. I think I'll try to get this one freed up.

Don't know how I missed this discussion from '07.
