We have to replant some corn due to extremly dry weather if it will rain we have liberty link roundup stack planted any idea on how to kill off what came up will gromoxon do the job the ajuster was out the other day and said he has never seen it so dry this early he was saying that some were thinking of abanoding the fields if it did not rain has anyone here every had to do that?

I think gromoxone will do the trick. If you have a Helena Chemical store close to you then some Latigo may work as well or better. How many acres will you have to burn down?

To cumminspuller It's just 35 or so most everybody stop planting two week ago no rain we want to plant some more if it ever rains as far as disking it's red GA. clay it as hard as a brick. It has not rained here since March 10.

the corn that hasn't came up, has it sprouted, if not you could get into a mess with it coming up after burn down and replant if it hasn't been in the ground long enough to kill the germination, not sure about how well corn can stand being in dry ground, but we had some beans last year that laid in the ground over a month and came up a stand after we finally got enough rain to dampen the ground, neighbor a few years back had some small corn that got hit with a killing frost and let someone talk him into not burning it off with gramoxone, after replanting a lot of the frost burnt corn came back, he had a mess

Thanks for info my seed dealer is also my crop insurance agent she doesn't want me or any one else to do a replant until we get a good rain like I had said we haven't had a good rain since March 10.

One of the biggest problems these day we are getting into so many stacked hybreds. Years ago if you planted one type of corn such as LL corn if you had a failed crop and you had to replant you could go to RR corn and be able to clean up the field if you had to replant . We also have to do some replanting here in TN. the rain keep missing us here they need to bring some of the old hybreds back such as the IT corn years ago I planted some poast resistant corn some of the best corn i ever grew got for 1 year could not get it again.

It has to be your decision. Do some digging and see what viable seeds are left if any and make the best decision on your best guess. It is always stressful to decide on something like this. Also talk to some of the older farmers in your area as they are excellent resources and have probably seen this before. Good luck.

What part of Ga are you in? here in Dodge and Pulaski counties in central Ga It is extremely dry and getting critical.Several of the farmers that I custom harvest for actually had to water corn land just to be able to plant and have been watering it ever since just to keep it going.Hardly any ponds are full and everyone is using wells to fill them.If we dont get some good soaking rains quick we are going to be in Big trouble. One farm had to replant some corn due to a new chemical that they tried and it stunted it so bad it basically quit growing.I would think Grammoxone would do the trick on the corn you want to kill.

To Haley I live right on the TN. AL. & GA boarders I part of the farm is in all 3 states that is a real pain sometimes like I said it has not rained a good soaker here since March 10 the rain goes every where but here we are getting july and august weather now other then a few light showers most of the small pond are dry allready I only have a couple hundred acres I have been doing this for over 35 years and this is the hottest and driest it has ever been here to add insult to injury the place I work for over 20 years closed it Jan. biggest employer in the area I guess I should consider myself blessed that all my equipment and land is paid for.

Its amazing how fast things change,i bought a 642 combine from a guy in Dalton and when I was up there the last week of december getting it, it was so wet he could barely feed cows with a 4wd tractor.I havent talked to him lately but everytime I see rain on the radar it seems to be all over Dalton.

sirhc you sound like you are 60 or south of me it just as dry here it seem the rain goes everywhere but here It poured in cookville twice and we didn't get nothing but a sprinkle they were predicting rain today but not a drop heremaybe if i cut some hay it will rain.
