I saw the sale bill and mentioned to wife that those boys must have covered some ground what with 5 good sized combines on the sale bill.

The small cab GMC's in the 1960's were referred to as crackerbox Jimmys by all the truckers..I guess it was because the cab was so small..I can remember several being in my area...

My brother (former AC dealer mechanic) has worked on
those L2 Gleaners several times over the years..He said that
Darrel didnt farm as many acres as most people thought
that he did..He just had lots of machinery..He once had a
7000 and 7030 AC tractors as pieces of them were still
there..

Most of the AC stuff on the sale came from Balk Tractor at
Nevada,MO...They were once the 5th largest AC dealer in
the US..I bought a new 200,7040,7060 AC tractors plus a
F3 Gleaner from them..They sold over 100 new 190 XT
AC's..There was orange and silver everywhere..A neighbor I
used to help some bought at least 7 new tractors
180,190XT,200,7000,6060,7040,and a 7060 plus 6 new
Gleaner combines E,F,K,M,L2,and L3..

Local (now defunct) feedmill had 2 crackerboxes, one a tandem with a bed similar to that, the other a tractor that they pulled a 28' dump trailer with. Brought back memories of my grandfather loading extra ear corn out of the cribs into those trucks.

THe first semi i ever road in was a crackerbox hauling wheat to the elevator in the days before hopper bottom trailors. Little did i know then i would become a truck driver for a living. lolI wish the farme i worked for then was still alive so he could see me now.Guys who drove them told me of wearing all there clothes inside in the winter and driving with one hand on the steering wheel and one with a ice scraper trying to keep the windshield clear. lol
