63C MF head on 1660 CIH

I emailed bish and found that I can get a plate to mount the head to the feeder house, but they will not supply a kit to convert the drive line. Curious to see if anyone has converted one to run on an IH. Thought about using Constant Velocity joints to absorb some of the stress of running a more agressive angle? Thoughts and Opinions please

For what the bish and driveshaft parts will cost you you probably can get into an IH head and you will be much happier with it. Especially if you no-till.

With the prices bish quoted I think I can put this together for the cost of a down payment on a CIH head, just looking to get by for a year or two we are coming off a 20 year drought.

Not sure of the MF head that you have but I used to have 860 MF with 9030?(it has been awhile) heads and I can tell you that I would buy the IH head that you need. If this is a corn head number I have never used them but the grain and flex heads I am using. The IH are much better in my opinion. We bought 4 IH heads in the last couple years and I think the 30 foot 1010 are around 5-7k for a good one with finger reel and the 1020's maybe 10-20. Don't waste your time with the old MF heads get the right one for the machine and crop and never look back. Remeber that the head makes the combine and with your new bigger machine get the head that gets it done.

The IH head drives from the bottom of the feeder house, and the MF drives from the top. Some sort of longer PTO shaft might handle the angle. I've run both MF and IH headS. Both are good heads, but I like the chopping action if the IH for no-till. As others have said, you can probably get a 963 or 1063 IH for the cost of the MF63 and the conversion.

Eric I think your over thinking this. Why not unhook the driveshaft on the head add a chain sproket to that shaft and put a shaft and chain sproket below and hook the driveshaft up strait to the combine. A double 60 chain will take alot of stress and be alot easer on the head and combine. I dont think this would be hard to do. Bandit

I got to looking at it yesterday, and I have 2 platform heads with the sprockets and bearings to do just what you mentioned Bandit, sometimes just standing there and looking at the problem leads to the most straight forward answers.

The college I went to's farm had a MF corn head on a 1420 IH. I can assure you outsidersag that I do not share the same feelings you do for massey corn heads.... Heck my 434w on my 95 is 3 times the head that one was. 237 corn picker may equal it...

Around here (SW IL) a 963 IH can be bought for $3000 or less and trust me you will be much happier than with the bish on your old head. An 863 IH probably could be found for less than that and would still be better.

I have picked many acres with a MF head and they work ok but I consider a 8-9-10 series IH, Case/IH head to be better in most respects and will work better in tough conditions. In the north the JD or MF head works better for no-til as it leaves the stalks standing and not laying on the ground allowing faster dry up and warming.
