I am looking for a Combine to cut less than 10 acers of corn a year
There is a guy with a K near me that wants to sell it
the machine hasent been run in 10 years but has been sheltered and I know the guy is very piticular about his equipement
he never riggs anything it is always fixed right
Have went and looked at it and it looks good for the age
the motor is not stuck and radiator has antifreez in it
he showed me the walking beams I think he called them were very tight and several bearrings and belts he replaced the last time he used it
he also had some kind of clutch rebuilt in the drive system the last year it was used
the steering axel has been reinforced from what I hear it is better if that is done
it has a 13 foot grain head on it that looks ok but the 238 corn head he has with it needs alot of work
I have found a replacement 238 corn head for $300 which is less than it will cost to fix the head he has
He is asking $2000 for it and says he will get it running if I want it
I may be able to move him a lil on the price but I dont know how much
Is the K a good combine for what i want to do and the price seems high but I also dont want to buy a piece of junk for less and have to work on it all the time
with it sitting for that amount of time would you think the belts and bearrings will be bad
I am thinking with it being under a shelter the whole time there is a good chance most will still be ok
Thanks for any thoughts

Sounds like a very good deal. It will give years of good service, with your care. I reckon you will treat it every bit as good or even better than the previous owner.

Forgot to mention the guy that has it bought it in the early 80's used
he only used it to combine 30-40 acers of wheat a year till he stoped farming in 2001

Interesting. Until you posted such, I was thinking that maybe this party had been the combine's original owner. You can determine the combine's actual year by checking the serial number at a dealer.

The K is a good machine and will serve you well. They are easy to get parts for and work on. The $300 replacement corn head is cheep and worth getting so you have one to run and one for parts. My dad has a K with 10 ft head with robot and he loves it. If the combine looks good and been in the shed and kept dry $2000 for it the corn and 13ft grain head is not a bad price, I would still see if you can get it cheaper. One thing to remember they don't make a new one like it so its worth what your willing to pay for it. Bandit

Got the K running today
all we did was put a battery in, replace the in line fule filter, put a section of hose in a 2 gallon can of gas, a shot of starting fluid in the carb a few turns then a lil gas in the carb and it fired
couple more times with the gas in the carb and she fired up and purred like a kitten
we ran the head everythign turns and no wierd noise, had to put a gallon of fluid in the hydralic pump and the head, and power steering worked fine
checked all the gears and it moved in all of them
it really amazed my dad we didn't even have to clean the points or anything to get it cranked def shows that sitting under a shelter can really make a difference
only problem is there is no brakes on the left wheel and 2 tires are not looking so good (1 back and 1 front )still working on the price may be able to do some trading and get a better deal
I did find the serial number today it is # K 18715
anyone know what year that was made
Thanks
