Feederhouses and Heads for JD 45, 55, 95, and 105 combines

Well I am finally in a position to where I am capable of buying an antique combine for both on farm use and show! Over the years I have really developed a passion for the 5 series Deere combines and would love to find an ol gal to restore! My current focus is on 1965-1969 model 45's and 55's (looking for something smaller perferably). However, my biggest question is about the feederhouses! Did either the 45 or 55 ever come factory with the Quick Tach feederhouse? Please correct me if I am wrong, but a quick tach feederhouse is mounted to the combine once and does not have to be removed when swapping heads? Correct? Please excuse my lack of knowledge or misunderstanding, I still have a lot to learn! I am trying to develop a good understanding in order to know what heads are compatiable with what year and model machines! I saw a brief disscusion about this in a previous posting about a 95 but would like more clearification. Thanks for any and all help, it is much appreciated!!

The 5 series never came out with quick
tach. The quick tach feeder houses came
out when the 6600 etc came to be. It was
called an itermediate feeder house
around here. Jim

Oh man, I should proof my statements better. The quick attach feeder house FOR THE 5 SERIES came out at the time or a little after the 6600 etc. series was released. The dealers called this dealer installed feederhouse the Intermediate feederhouse. If at all possible, get a quick attach feeder house so you can use a newer series quick attach corn head. It's so much simpler and doesn't use as much power as the cornhead that came with the 5 series. Doesn't matter as much with the grain platform. Jim

I know they had Quick-tach feeder houses for the 55 95 and the 105s and I dont think they made it for the 40 or 45 (not positive on the 45). As for your other question on the 95 feeder house the old style the bottom is curved and the new style is flat faced top to bottom like the 6600 were. Here is a picture of a 95 quick-tach feeder house with the l bracket needed to run a 343 3 row narrow corn head. Bandit

i have an old 45EB with a quicktach feederhouse on
it. it is a JD and not a after market unit. have a
244 and a 343 head for it.shelled corn like a champ
when i farmed.

Quicktach feeder houses were installed at the factory starting around 1966 on the 105,95,55,45. Not sure of the 40s. They would have been available as retrofits for the earlier ones from dealers.

Thank you for all the replies guys!! This website seems very helpful and I am sure I will have plenty more questions to come! If anyone has a either a 45 or 55 they would like to sell, please let me know! Looking to spend under $2000. From what I have seen, a guy can find a field running machine in decent condition for about this price! You guys agree? Is it a real task swaping the old heads whithout a quick tach feederhouse? For now ill only be cutting around 40 acres of beans!

(quoted from post at 13:13:12 08/11/11) Were the quick tach feeder housings the same for the 95's and 105's???

Each model had its own feederhouse.
I installed one on my 55 gas hydro, best thing could have ever done to that combine.

One thing I am still looking for. The cylinder extensions that came with the feederhouse. If anybody has any extra or can get me measurements so I could make some I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm also wondering about the quick tach or intermediate feederhouse for a JD 45 combine. If anyone knows where one would be for sale I would be interested. I'm wanting to switch to a JD 244 corn head instead of the old 210. Thanks in advance.
