GLEANER M - Burnt Separator Clutch

A slug got past the feeder beater, plugged the cylinder and smoked the clutch.

Assuming there is no adjustment and will require replacing.

Would someone walk me thru the dismantle process?

I tend to unscrew more than necessary.

Thanks

Been a while since I changed one but I remember that its a lot easier if you get the return elevator out of the way first then its pretty straightforward. If the contacting surfaces of the clutch are'nt torn up too much they can be resurfaced in a lathe and the insulation in the magnet cut back a little to give clearance. The magnet is very expensive and the armature is not cheap either at nearly $400. There is actually no clutch facing material in the clutch assembly, it is driven by steel on steel. When you say it is "burnt" it is usually slipping due to the two mating surfaces having worn into one another to the point where the insulation covering the coils in the magnet is contacting the armature and preventing the steel surfaces from getting a good grip on each other.

Thank you so much!

Have started the dismantling.

Believe i need specialty wrench for bin unloader pulley/nut combo.

Rest of procedure looks to be fairly simple.

You are correct dead on about the pricing, 1300 bucks total new.

Didn't realize the pieces could be machined, and absolutely worth a try.

Will complete harvest with back-up combine.

May i contact you at a later date for additional info?

I will be changing the clutch on one of my L-2's later this fall, glad to help out any way I can. Been a while since I did one so my memory will be fresh after I have completed my clutch replacement..
