I screwed up - Deere 100 series head to mount on 6620 SH

Hey all,

I just got suckered. I bought a 100 series head from a liar out in Sumner IA to mount on my 6620 sidehill. It was billed as a 200 series with hydraulic drive in great shape and turned out to be a worn out 100 series with mechanical drive. I shoulda walked away, but what's done is done.

Basically, along with a dope slap, I need some advice on how to get this to mount up to my 6620 sidehill. Worthington scrapped their 100 series heads a decade ago and Deere offers nothing for them. My only thought is to take the shaft to a machine shop and have him machine about 6 inches into hex shaft, weld on a bearing mount, and hook up a drive shaft. Any better ideas?

You will end up doing the same conversion to your combine with either style head. What you have in mind is the normal way of doing so. Some 200 series heads were equipped from the factory for SideHill use. Most were not. Mike

Have you tried the yard on D17 south of Parkersburg? I used to take D17 from US20 west to T13 then north to 20 as a shortcut. They had lots of combines there, even have some tractors hidden in the bushes and trees. Eiklingburg or something like that is their name.

Hey,

Thanks for the number to Eiklenborg. Unfortunately, when I called they told me they're firmly in level-land country and don't see much side-hill stuff.

I think I'm gonna take the shaft over to a machinist later this week.

I have done this a couple of times, we have a good welding shop close to us and he makes shafts for local dealer, but the best thing you can do is get your tape measuer find a sidehill head and measuer length of shaft slip clutch is the hardest but not bad make some bearing hangers and make sure the hole from your combine shaft is right in the new shaft. good luck
