combine hauling

Anybody think I'd get too much grief from the police if I hauled a combine with a 9' wide head without wide load banners? I have to go about 150 miles with it, and I know they have the 102" rule.

Depends where you're coming from?If from il,i would take the head off but in your with in wi,not much of a problem, just get those magnetic flashers and put them on each end and both sides.Being where yer at the city folk will call and holler,so the cops which make sure you got flashers. It happened, when people have to slow down they get mad.

in kansas as long as your under 12 foot during the day they shouldnt say anything we got stopped hauling hay and was 11 foot 4 inches and he said we were ok he just followed us because one of our tail lights didnt work

You are only 6" over width and no one will even notice it.Load it
to hang over on the ditch side, stay off major hiways, dont cross
any scales, and stay out of big towns.

I suspect it depends mostly on your state and their attitude. What
bugs me is you can drive it down the highway with a 16' head, but
if you load it on a trailer most states want you to have a OW permit
with wide load banners flashing lights and if your wide enough-
escorts. I found out that MI charges $15 and IN gets $20 for a one
time permit. Larry

I hauled my old Minneapolis combine right down us 36 in MO it is almost 10 foot wide with no header I did it on a Saturday loaded it chained it down put the header on the other trailer and we came 180 mile home Lady at DOT said I did not need permit in MO if under 14 ft and I owned the machinery and was going from purchase to home, farm to farm, or farm to repair shop this is MO and I dont know where you are at she did say to stay of interstate

I'm on the IL/WI border, I haul my MM model L with a 9' cut combine to the local shows in IL and WI. Never been bothered by the DOT "YET".

Illinois and Indiania do not require a permit for ag equipment unless over 12' feet wide or (in Indiania) travelling on the interstate. Loads must still be signed and flagged, however.
