Driving bythe local JD dealer today and noticed a 8900 White on the lot with 6 row narrow corn head. Real clean looking machine. Off brands machines like this White are real cheap here in NE Iowa. Did not stop to get a price but am curious. Was this a good combine, rotary and are parts available? Thanks.

8900 came out about 1979 or so and built until 1983 or 84. Used a turbo 354 Perkins for power and most all had hydrostatic drive. 52 inch wide cylinder. A 6-row 20ft grain head machine. I may be biased but I feel that they were a good machine. We had an 8700 which was the little brother and it was a good combine. As of 1995 when I left the local White dealer all necessary parts were still available. In 1985 Allied Corporation sold off the White combine to Massey Ferguson. Massey kept the 9700 rotary (I think it became the 8570) and discontinued the cylinder type machines.

I worked in parts for both a White dealer and then a Deere dealer and let me tell you this. We got rid of our White 8700 (traded for a Case-IH 1640) with over 3000 hours on it. There were items on it we never laid a wrench on that the Deere boys were replacing on Titans and Maximizers with a lot less hours.

Shoup Manufacturing and Sloan Express both show a selection of aftermarket parts for 8000 series Whites in their catalogs.
