battery loses charge after running

i have an electrolux lawn tractor, model#96012002100, year 2005, b&s engine, type 0231e1, code 041119zd. i put in a new battery and it starts up and runs good. after i shut it off and try to start it it doesn"t have enough power in the battery to turn it over. bill

Sounds like the diode / rectifer is shot and letting it drain / or suppling the battery with AC, while it's running with the key on. Either that or the valves need adjusting if it's a OHV engine , because of compression. Also, your battery could be to small amp wise and not have enough power to turn it over after the motor / starter gets hot , somehow.

Goto briggs website,local dealer or ebay with model# of eng(type# of no value if you don't have mod#) and buy a service/repair manual/cd that covers your mod eng,as whizkid said you may have a charging problem,acr problem or both,briggs used up to 6 different charging systems depending on mod# of eng,in manual it will id each system & instructions how to troubleshoot each system,will also have instructions as to how to adj valves & clearance settings,if you don't have elect/mech knowledge to troubleshoot eng,leave it for pro's at local mower shop.
