cub starter/generator

I remember that I have to polarize the generator after having the battery go completely dead or after changing batteries. However, I don't remember how to do so. It's been a long time since I had to do this so if one of y'all could run that process by me again, that would be great. 12 volt negative ground system in a cub cadet original just for reference. Thanks

You do NOT need to polarize the generator after battery replacement.

That's an OLD mechanics wive's tale!

Polarizing IS needed after the generator has been disassembled for repairs or if the generator has been removed and knocked around a bit.

HOWEVER, with the combination starter-generator, the generator gets polarized EVERY TIME you hit the starter switch to start the engine. Feeding battery voltage to it to make it crank the engine is the exact same way you polarize a generator!

So, nothing to worry about, 'cuz your genny doesn't NEED polarizing AND it will get polarized anyway when you use the starter function!
