Kohler K301 ring installation

I got my rebuild kit with a service manual on CD. Problem is the service manual states that the instructions on how to install the rings should be included with the rings (compression rings are differant). Anyone know where this is online?
 
let me know the brand and i will tell you .usually the inside bevel goes up on the compression rings, or if they have a dot on them the dot goes up. the three peice oil ring you but the end of the expander together and roll the steel rails on ending up with the gaps apart at least a few inches expander gap,steel rail gap apart..dont let the expander on the oil ring overlap on the ends.
 
Problem is I didn't get a three peice oil ring - it appears the two small rings (flanges) are missing from the kit. Any chance this is one company's way of doing it or did the supplier screw up by leaving out the "thin" rings?

Thanks for the info on the compression rings - these do not have the "dot" so I was a bit confused.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't Kohler change the piston design over the years... you MAY have the wrong ring set for the piston you have.
 
IF THAT OIL RING FILLS UP THE GROOVE FOR IT IN THE PISTON IT WONT USE STEEL RAILS,I HAVE SEEN IT DONE THAT WAY AND THEY WILL USUALLY GO IN EITHER WAY AS EDGES ON THE RING ARE THE SAME. USUALLY THE 1 PEICE OIL RINGS ARE MADE OF CAST IRON TYPE MATERIAL,NOT LIKE THE SHEET METAL MADE EXPANDER USED WITH THE STEEL RAILS.

This is a "Stens" rebuild kit and I think you are correct. It was purchased with gasket kit, rod, piston, and rings along with a Kohler brand governor gear.

I've looked at other listings and it appears all the new piston and rings kits have a single peice oil ring.
 
Just got 3 kits from Sten's. All had three piece oil rings, second ring goes with dot up, and top ring has very small print that says "top".
