LX 255 wont start

Tried to start my lx 255 this morning and would start. I smell gas, have compression and now don't see a spark. Any suggestions as where to begin.

Check seat safety sw,check that sw tight in mounting bracket & plunger on sw being hit/depressed fully by seat,check that contacts in sw connector & on sw clean & connector plugged tight on sw,if seat sw checks out ok,locate & disconnect ign kill lead at eng,crank eng,check for spark,still no spark problem on eng,in ign system,oil pressure/float sw,if you do have spark with kill lead disconnected,then problem in safety sw's,ign sw or wiring harness on tractor
