Asked awhile back and most thought it was ignition switch.
I put new switch from John Deere Dealer. Check all the connections I could see and put new battery in and cables. it still won"t charge.
any ideas?
Thank You.

Do yourself a favor first, and check the grounds on the tractor. You need two of them. The negative post from the battery should be grounded to the frame with a small wire and to the engine with a big wire. Scrape the metal under the ground wires until is it shiny before you tighten those nuts back down. Don't ask why I know this, it's too embarrassing.

If it starts with the key, you can rule out a bad solenoid and bad cables. Soooooo.....

Get out your multimeter and check across the two outside leads on the voltage regulator. At wide open throttle you should have 28 volts AC. If not, you have a bad stator or (less likely) no magnets left in your flywheel.

If you have 28 volts across the outside terminals, change your multimeter from AC to DC and check from the middle terminal to ground, with the negative or black lead on a GOOD ground. You should have 13.5 +/- DC there.

If both those check out, you (still) have a broken/unhooked wire or a bad battery. Sometimes a new switch is bad, too. Just not too likely.

Here's a diagram of Kohler's rectifier/regulator
use Steve's procedure to check it out. Clean all
those terminal connections at the rectifier where the wires connect. Hal

Thank you for reply.
I will check out what you say next trip to the farm 300 miles away.
I was looking at the sheet metal around engine where stator is. Will it come off while still in frame? It looks like it won't remove to get to flywheel and on to the stator.
thanks again

you will have to take engine off to get sheet metal off and flywheel, My 210 wasn"t charging either, and i took the flywheel off cleaned up both surfaces of the flywheel and stator...and now its charging bout 13.7 volts...

You may need to pull the engine to get to the fan shroud over the flywheel. Check to see if you're getting AC voltage to the rectifier/regulator. Clean those terminals on there and check again.
If your're getting AC voltage switch meter to DC and see if you're getting DC voltage. Should be around 14 volts on a 12 volt system. You may not need to pull the shroud if you're getting AC voltage. You may need a new rectifier. Hal

Those rectifiers are quite tough, but will burn right out if battery is connected backwards,
or regulator is poorly, grounded. I like to run a short ground strap from rectifier case to frame.
