JD L110 and L130

Hi everyone,

I have two L100 series lawn tractors that I'm having issues with getting them to work. My sister left them both outside over the winter and trying to get them functional has been hard.

On the L110:

The engine turns over and I bought new battery, changed the gas, fuel filter, spark plug and I replaced the fuel solenoid (it went bad) in the carburator and the needle in the float.

Before I replaced the solenoid, I cleaned as much as I could everything with carburator cleaner and I was able to get it to start with a shot of ether. But it wouldn't stay running and it ran roughly as well.

After I replaced the fuel solenoid, I got it to run but it ran roughly and it wouldn't stay running.

I have primed the fuel pump on the L110 but I'm a bit at a loss at what else I could do.

On the L130, when I try and turn it over it clicks, I figured that the solenoid/starter was stuck so I gently rapped it and it turns (but doesn't turn over like the engine is stuck), but there are sparks coming from the positive battery terminal when I try and start it.

I replaced the fuel filter and changed the gas. I checked all the electrical connections and the fuse.

I'd appreciate any advice you could give me,

Christos

Sparks coming from the positive battery terminal indicates a problem there. Loose connection, corrosion, broken battery terminal etc. Fix that and it might crank up.

Sparks around a battery can cause an explosion since the battery gives of explosive hydrogen gas when charging.
