ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO CK A ELE CLUTCH FOR TO MUCH OF A DRAW ON THE BATTERY. MY JG 185 W/A KAW. THE BATTERY GOES DEAD AFTER 1/2HR OF MOWING SEEM'S THAT BATTERY GET'S DRAINED WHEN THE ELE CLUTCH IS ON, THEN THE ENGINE QUITS CHARGE UP THE BATTERY AND IT RUNS FINE. HAS A NEW VOLT.REG. ON IT.THANK'S

Check the battery with a hydrometer or have load checked, you may have a battery with weak/bad cell(s),or it's just tired & needs replacement. To check clutch, install an ammeter in series with +12v lead to clutch coil, should read 3-5A when engaged, depending on make/model,anything over coil in clutch shorted

Also check alt output to battery, you may have replaced reg,but you might have an alt stator problem or a blow fuse in wiring harness for alt output, connect a voltmeter to battery, run eng 3/4-full throttle(clutch off),voltage should rise to 14.5 volts,if not battery not being charged by alt.

Check also a plug under the battery/behind the engine. You will have to remove the panel below the steering wheel for easy access. The plug has the two wires from the stator and the engine kill wire. I worked on this one because of no ignition yesterday. This plug had some heat damage from poor connections on the alternator stator wires. This heat damage caused shorting the engine kill wire to one of the stator wire killing the ignition. It is a wonder this short did not burn up the coil. The wire color changes at this plug. The stator wires are black coming from the engine and change at the plug to red with a white tracer. I removed the male and female 1/4 inch blade connector and butt spliced the black wires to the red with white tracers outside of the plug which was not usable because of heat damage.
