briggs motor started dieing

my briggs ohv 14 hp started to lose power i changed fuel filter spark plug checked for spark good spark it will start an run but will not rev up then it will die wat should i check to get it runing again

Could be as simple as water drops in fuel,
A plugged line going to filter, carb clogged.
Today's gas goes bad fast, and dies hard, leaving gummy film in your carb. Try some pour in carb cleaner, hope for best, prepare for worst [ carb rebuild ]

After checking out fuel system,remove valve cover & check valve clearances,should be intake-.003"-.005",exh.005"-.007",also check around head where it meets the block,look for signs of oil leaking between head & block,this indicates a leaking/blown head gasket,a common problem on many 14-16hp ohv briggs.

Make sure you're getting a good flow of gas to the engine. Take the fuel line off at the carb and catch the gas in a clean container should have a good stream of gas if its gravity fed to the engine. If a fuel pump is used it could the problem. Hal

Check for a broken intake push rod. If broken, Replace with an exhaust push rod because if you used a new aluminum one you will be replacing it AGAIN.
