I have a 6 HP techumsa engine tiller serial 261028 believed to be a 1984 horse model that I am having trouble getting the disc to actuate with the lower drive pulley. The fiber disc just does not go down far enough to touch the drive steel one.... Almost, but not enough that one cannot turn the fiber wheel so that you know it is touching tightly ! I tried to get info on The MTD site but my Computer system is toooooo old to download the free info for my tiller. Any of you kind folks know how to adjust the disc via the bolt and spring just behind the disc ?????? The disc doesn't seem to be worn badly enough so that an adjustment could not be made ? Could there be something else that may be preventing the disc to go all the way in order to adjust it ? Any help is appreciated... jim

You might check the adjustment on the sliding block on the handle bars., and the adjustments on any other control handle. A worn reverse disc will cause problems, but i am assuming that you have replaced it already.

Are you referring to the reverse disc? When you raise your main lever fully it should cause your tiller to back up. Have you installed a new reverse disc? There's no adjustment on them. I have a Horse model that had the 6hp Tecumseh engine when I got it. Does this look like it. Hal

There's a picture of the reverse disc on ebay. Item number 320364712521. Picture wouldn't post. Hal

Here's the old reverse pulley that came off a 6hp Troy bilt tiller. I installed a new one when I put on a new engine. When you raise your shifting lever the metal pulley will engage this pulley causing the tiller back up. That reverse pulley runs real close to the metal pulley on the tiller and shouldn't have to raise the lever very high for to the tiller to backup. Hal
PS: This old reverse pulley isn't worn very much.

Mine is the same on a 73 model.
You can also adjust the stop bolt with the spring under it on on the front top of the tranny, it controlls how far down the disc drops.
