usually post on the JD or the Farmall site, but today had a Bolens Huski Gardner tractor given to me. it is the two wheel type with the steering clutches on it, and it has about a 42" sickle bar mounted on it. questions are, about what hp and year model, and can someone tell me a little about it? numbers on b&s engine are model# BR6, type# 300369, or possibly 380369, and serial number 199818. where would i find a parts manual, and possibly an owners manual, and something about these type tractors? any help, thanks in advance!

It's probably around a 1953, but I need to know which number is for what.

I've got several OEM Gardener books here from when I worked at a Bolens dealership.

Gardener is going to be Bolens number something like this:

B6A4 07 or B6A5 07 or B6A5 01 or B6A20 05

All have 3 horse Briggs but with other slight variations.

B6A4 has 4.00 X 12" tires.
B6A5 has 5.00 X 12" tires on 3" rims
B6A5S has 6 X 12" tires on 5" rims
B6A20 as 20" steel wheels.

The serial number of the engine looks like it dates that to about June/July of 1947,if it's the original engine but I think 1949 was the first year for the Gardner, non the less,it should be a pretty early one.

thanks for the replies. the numbers i gave are on the motor itself. unsure of where to look for any other numbers. got tractor from friend whose dad bought new, so it is original motor. pretty sure it has 5.00x12 tires on it. tractor has set in closed barn for YEARS, and everything is still free and not stuck. it still has old champion plug in it with # 8comm on it. cant wait to get it fired up! even front sickle bar is not stuck, and machine is still green and yellow with decals still in place!

Some of those numbers don't seem to make sense- at least not to me at the moment.

Bolens had a Gardener-type tractor in 1947& 1948 that used the Briggs BR6. My Bolens book shows it at a Huski Hi-Boy HB63 A5. THe original Bolens parts book don't give engine numbers. The later Gardeners used Wisconsin ABN engines rated 4.3 horsepower.

Original Bolens manual for ID states: THe nameplate is attached to the top of the jackshaft casting. When ordering parts always send TYPE NO. and SERIAL NO. stamped on this plate.

just came in from working on it, and got it running! the numbers i gave are from engine plate, but i found the other plate, and all it gives is the serial # G15752 no model or type number. will this help?

That seems to make perfect sense then,it must be an HB63 A5 from 1947 or '48
