The saga continues!
Now that I have the tractor running I thought I would change the oil again.
It has been smoking since I changed the oil last fall.
I believe the oil level was down way too far before the last oil change, now I think the motor needs rebuilt, far too much blue smoke.

It probably does need a rebuild.
What weight oil did you put in it ?

I have been running a smoker for a few years. I just use thicker oil and keep a close eye on the level. Maybe I will get time to rebuild the kohler this winter...

Thanks for the come back.
I used a straight 30 detergent oil the second time.
It runs OK, but, boy does it smoke up the yard!
Like an old car my BIL had years ago.
I will probably leave it until I can pull the motor apart and replace the rings.
It only has about 100 hours since it was bored 10 over.
I am not sure where the oil went to cause this.

Pull the head and check the cylinder to see if it scored any. Sometimes the hone job is not the proper grit and those chrome rings will tear the cylinder up.

ANON
I used a 60 grit carborundum cylinder bore glazer (like a stove brush with balls on the end) after I bored it 10 over at our shop.
No time to do it now, I will have to repair it next year.
Thanks for the information.

Sounds Like to me the rings never seated. I used chrome rings in all my race engines, To get those hard to seat rings, to seat. I would run the engine up to 3/4 speed, Take Tea Spoon of Ajax, Yes Ajax, and blow it down the carb. Those Chrome rings will seat right then. You will have to flush the engine after they seat, to get the rest of the grit out. But it will work.
