hyd lift 782 cc

When I lower my mower deck on my 782 cadet I have to pull up on the steering. What happens is with the valve body for the lift being bolted to the steering shaft, it pulls the shaft out of the steering box. Instead of pushing the valve. How can I fix it?

Take the steering column out, put tube back down into the aluminum base, then drill thru aluminum and put short self-tapping screws into it to pin steel tube fast to aluminum. Don't put long screws in as they may hit steering shaft and you will not be able to turn it.
