I have a Bolens QT-16 model 1666 16 hp tractor with hydro problems.

It has trouble going forward. It makes whining sounds but little power and reverse seems mostly ok.

It may have been abused, my neighbor returned it with the front axle broken!

Anybody have a manual or repair instructions? Any idea what may be wrong? Where can I get parts, it must be 20 yrs old. I think it was made by Ford, very heavy cast iron. At least it uses ford ATF. I'm going to change the oil to see if it helps.

I recently purchased FMC Bolens tractor when I got it started it was like yours it wouldn't pull forward and would barely go backwards. I removed the rearend and disassembled it,inside I found the bull gear bolts sheered and substantual damage to the pinion gears. I reccomend you don't try to move your tractor anymore as more damage may occur. If you have any mechanical skills, remove the rearend and disassemble it (be careful it's very heavy). see whats wrong and contact Bruneau's Power Equipment (Bobby Bruneau) 4305 Hwy 165 Hollywood, SC 29449 (843)889-8377 rbruneau@awod.com I called him this morning and he had three bull gears for my tractor, he may have one for yours.

Thanks,
My problem is in the hydro transmission. It pulls ok (not like it used to) when cold. After about an hour of working, it gets hot and loses torque.
I did change the oil and filter, no help.
I may try to find a new hydraulic unit. I guess I will have to take it apart first to see if it is something easy.

Bobby at Bruneau's probably has a hydro. Also a Bolens dealer in Pilot Mt. told me to run hydralic fluid in mine, Robert Mann at Sonny's Farm & Home Supply Phone (219) 726-2808 1733 N.200W. Portland,In 47371-7004 E-mail sonnys.bolens@hotmail.com can tell you which fluid and filter to use. If you are interested in selling your old rearend E-mail me at AlbertBobCat@aol.com Thanks, Albert

your problem could be in the cooler fan. fans made of plastic tend to break off in small pieces.I believe that this problem is consistent with a unit which works while cold but does not when hot.

I had my sunstrand hydro rebuilt 5 years ago by the dealer at which time it worked "like new", cost $250. After incredible abuse pushing a front end loader it now needs another rebuild. Unlucky for me I lost the ID tag and they won't touch it without one. Anyone have a model and serial # number for a model 2087 transmission they will share. I am in Dallas Texas where no one has ever seen one of these. Be glad to share stories of how I put an Onan engine in this beast to bring it back to life.
