I have just go a new to me mower witha hydrogear trans axle. It is a sealed unit, however I found a little sevice info that my oil level should be 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" below the breather vent . My question is how do drain the oil. I thought of a vampire pump or drill a hole and add a drain plug. It uses 20w50 oil.

That is a sealed unit, you don't change the oil unless water get's in it. when i have to get in one to work on i remove the axel and dump it out the breather tube opening. you can suck it out if you want and refill, won't hurt anything

Thats what I was figuring. I have been hunting a dead one to play with and see if I can install a plug and a sight glass. but that is just a thougt.

sas, have you ever replaced the 2 17 tooth gears that drive the pump? If so did you find a discrepancy on the price between the 2 gears that are identical except for the shaft size? Thats what went in my CC1320 and the price of the gears differ by $80.00! I haven't fixed it yet!..Fred
