I HAVE A JD GX 345 W/A 20HP KAW.TWIN ENGINE,AND IT RUNS FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MINS AND IT STARTS TO DIE,BUT IF YOU CHOKE ENGINE IT STAYS RUNNING NOT GOOD BUT RUNNING.LET GO OF CHOKE IT DIES.HAS NEW FUEL PUMP,LINES,TANK CLEANED,CARB CLEANED ANY HELP GOING CRAZY!

Hello, try runnig it with the fuel cap removed. also try hooking a aux fuel tank to the carb bypassing the fuel pump. If it runs with the cap off the it is getting air bound in the tank and the vent in the cap is bad. If you use the aux fuel tank and it runs( hold the tank higher than the carb with a short piece of fuel line) Than something is causing your fuel pump not to work, bad head gasket etc, I hope this helps

try a time delay module.
these do some strange things when they go bad.
it controls the electic plunger in the carb.
for $16 it is worth replacing

2-Pack, what kind of temps did you have outside when it was acting up? If it was really hot, it might be vapor lock.

Although the time delay module is a pretty "usual suspect", I'd be surprised if that was it on this one. You said it recovered when you gave it choke.

It's probably not a blown head hasket either, as this is a L/C engine and you'd know it if you blew one on this model.

These KHI motors are really fussy about their fuel. They don't like Ethanol in any form. They also don't like old fuel. Make sure you store your fuel in a sealed container and try to go thru it every month or so. Keep in mind that while it's in the tractor, it's not a sealed tank, so cut that shelf life down even further.

When you "cleaned the carb", did you completely disassemble, or did you spray carb cleaner in it and call it good?

If you have a compression gauge, this one should have at least 170psi (full throttle, choke off).

Let us know what you find.

Mine acted the same way. it turned out to be the time delay moduel. it is located on the left side of the engine right above the starter. it is kind of hidden behind the support for the air cleaner housing. it has three or four wires on it and is replaced with ease. you can not mix up the wires because they are color coded and have different ends. part goes for about $16 to $18.
