I have a Bolens Eliminator 1402, model number 1467, SN# 0100523. The front universal joint of the drive shaft is badly worn. My Bolens dealer shows the drive shaft is available, but at $500. The tractor isn’t worth spending $500. I just use it to drive around. Does anyone know where I can get just the universal joint? A part number would be helpful.

The smallest joint the local farm supply had around hear was a 15/16 inch cup I think. I was building a driveline for a Gravely I have that used 7/8 inch. I had everthing built when the Gravely yoke threw me that undersized cross cup but I was lucky as I was able to set-up the Gravely yoke in my mill and bore the yoke out to use the 15/16 inch cross kit.

Smaller joints are available. When I worked for a Bolens dealer we stocked the replacement joints. And, I've bought them aftermarket. Many companies make joints with 7/8" caps and smaller. Bolens used Rockwell joints as I recall.

I don't remember the exact Bolens size - but in regard to U-joints with caps smaller than 15/16" - here are a few:

Rockwell 1FR series - cap diam is .875" (7/8")
NAPA # 853

Rockwell L10N series cap diam is .875" (7/8")
NAPA # 870

Nissan - cap diam is .875" (7/8")
NAPA # 392

Toyota/Kubota - cap diam is .788"
NAPA # 410 or 397

I would suggest you go to TSC, I know they have parts and you could probably have one made cheaper.

I doubt TSC has anything that small.

If he can tell us what type of "U" joints he has and dimensions, I can find them in a Precision "U" joint catalog, and come up with a number that can be ordered through many auto supply stores.

Are the "U" joint cups held in place by snap rings?
