Do you think a 116 John Deere drive train would stand up to the abuse of pulling with a 18Hp 2-cylinder Briggs mounted to it, with wheel weights and any other weights I can find to make it heavy? Or maybe it might be better to go with a 200 series JD garden tractor?

Go with the 200 series
116 axle wont take it
200 series tractor has cast iron axle
Good luck Gary
