I got a JD 214 mid 80's. I finally got it running after checking the spark plug and replacing the battery but when going full speed down the road it acts like its sputtering a little bit. is that Normal because I dont remember it doing that before??

Rob; Sputtering is not normal...check your fuel bowl..may need cleaning out..if that's OK, check the points for proper setting or they may need replacing. If all those check out OK, then look at the small wire that connects to the side terminal on your starter solenoid...make sure it's tight !! Good luck !! Jim

Also, the ignition switch has been known to fail, and cause unsteady current to the ignition system as the switch is vibrated by the engine.
