I have to replace a real axle seal and I wonder if someone can tell me how to get out the two bolts on top of the axle. They are bolted to the large steel frame that goes around the back. The four bolts holding the axle housing onto the trans seem easy to get at but the other two are a mystery as there is no room for a wrench on the outer one and the other is inside the steel frame???? Help. thanks.

On older 140 I worked on you have to remove the operator platform to remove the transaxle.

That's the way I have always done any work on the 212. Disassembly will include L & R foot pedals, 1 front bolt each side, 1 rear bolt each side, plastic shifter gate, depth set knob, seat safety wire harness, gas cap, and tranny in neutral. Service the gas tank while it is out and if you replace the hard plastic fuel line with softer materials I loop it once so I have more to work with.

Thanks guys, yep, had to remove shroud with seat etc., and had not done so for awahile so did not look forward to it. However I had it off in just over ten minutes without help, and then the fun started, but we are back in business, and yes it is easy to look after the gas tank at the same time. thanks.
