My year old L118 has started running very rough under load (belt engaged, mowing weeds). Runs smooth with out load. Almost sounds like one of the 2 cylinders not firing all the time. Has had regular oil and plugs change. Has anyone had similar problem and any suggestions??

Thanks!

Isn't the tractor under warranty? How many hours are on it?

check for spark, then check into carb. those have a two barrell carb. have seen them stop up on one side and cause one bank to run lean. makes muffler glow and such. new carb cures this. darn emmisions carb can"t really be cleaned. takes about an hour to switch one out. real pain to remove, but not complicated.
repaired several last year for same issue.

PDI Man (and all others)I hate to admit this, but the problem seems to have cleared up itself. Shortly after posting problem, my Mom got in very bad shape, buried her last week, and wife had to have surgery. No time to mess with the JD. Apparently the grain of crud in the carb disolved itself. I must admit I was pulling the choke back only a bit when mowing; son-in-law recognized stupid and showed me to pull it all the way off after warming up (only moments). For whatever reason(s) the JD is running just like new. I do appreciate the suggestions and don't go away. Will probably be back later.

Thanks again,

Harvey

The Home Depot JD L118 is a 22HP Briggs. Was just looking at it yesterday.
