Like it was stated before unless the block is cracked or unless it needs to be bored passed .030 over I'd rebuild it. Parts are easily available and still prices pretty good. As for the value depending on if it is an H1 or H3 is majoring deciiding factor. If it has 3 handles to left of the steering wheel or 1 handle is the key tot he 140's. Single handles run depending on condition will sell for $300 to $800 where as the 3 handle models will sell depending on condition between $300 & $1,500.

Due to the way the engines are mounted in the 140, it requires a different engine than the standard Kohler 14hp. For about the same price as a rebuild or new Kohler, you can re-power with a modern engine. I put a Vangard V-Twin, 18hp in mine. If you're interested, email me, and I'll forward an article telling how.

The Kohler engines are almost indestructable, and unless the block is broken, it's probably repairable. New shortblocks are available, but $$$$.

The tractors commonly sell in the range of $300.00 to $1200.00.
